THE ANCHORAGE OF TIME

Izidine, a recently promoted police officer, is called to a nursing home in an old colonial fort to investigate a crime: Vasto Excelêncio, the home’s director, has been murdered. Izidine encounters a surprise during his investigation: all the residents Izidine questions confess to having committed the murder. Each has a convincing motive and a credible story. Over time, Izidine realises that there is more to discover than just the murder of the home’s director.

O ANCHORADOURO DO TEMPO by Sol de Carvalho develops a very particular visual language and aesthetic. The 16th-century Fortress of São Sebastião on the island of Mozambique provides the intimate action with an extraordinary setting and historical weight. The story is an adaptation of Mia Couto’s novel ‘Sob a árvore de frangipani’ (Under the Frangipani Tree). This literary adaptation offers a very original and special perspective on the crime genre.
