For many, Cesária Évora was a superstar. At home in the African island state of Cape Verde, however, the singer was much more: she was a symbol of pride, and a role model that provided both help and hope.

The world-famous singer Cesária Évora is depicted and cinematographically portrayed in a new and very personal documentary. With previously unreleased footage and insights into the singer’s life, the film follows the struggles and success of the ‘Barefoot Diva’. Her voice brought her from poverty to fame, but her only dream was to be free.

The LusOFest is screening this documentary as a preview before its official German cinema opening, happening in April 2025.
