CONCERT: JULAKIM

JULAKIM, a musician from Darmstadt, fits perfectly into the supporting programme of our small festival. She is a regional artist with a personal connection to Lusophonia. Julakim is a border crosser. She combines German, French, Spanish, Portuguese and English to create a multilingual soundscape. Her music is hypnotic, sensual and political at the same time. Her artistic vision has also been shaped by five tours of Brazil, which have had a lasting influence on her work and are reflected in her rhythm, attitude and openness. Her current album bLuzLand (2024), nominated for the German Record Critics’ Award, programmatically stands for the duality of light and shadow, closeness and distance. Most recently, she curated the exhibition ‘Versehen – fassbar gemacht’ (Mistake – made tangible) as part of the Orange Days in Offenbach, which took its origin in one of her songs.

Julakim’s solo sets literally frame our programme of medium-length films, which, incidentally, are a premiere at LusOFest. The first set will take place at approximately 2:30 p.m. following our matinee screening of Wim Wenders’ classic LISBON STORY (1994), and the second at approximately 4:30 p.m. following the medium-length (over 20 minutes) competition films. Before Lisbon Story, we will show the sarcastic short film COCA-VELA, produced by Julakim, which reflects on the exploitation of the cultural and social structures of the favelas in Brazil.

Admission to the concerts is free – just like the other short and feature film screenings at 57Nord. We welcome donations on site and, to help us plan better, registrations via the events on Facebook and Eventbrite (available soon).
