Margarida Gramaxo, Documentary, Portugal 2023, 90′ /w subtitles

For over 20 years, Lindo hunted sea turtles on the island of Príncipe. After an encounter with an unexpectedly tame turtle, he decided to change his life and protect the animal from other predators. Now he delves into his past to search for clues that spark a debate about the island’s future and encourage reflection on the difficult balance between humans and nature.

Director and screenwriter Margarida Gramaxo studied law and worked as a solicitor until she began working in film and television development in 2012. LINDO is her first feature film and opens this year’s feature film programme. The film, which features impressive nature and underwater footage, has already been shown at several festivals, including Porto/Post/Doc, Cine-Eco and Ciné-ONU in Brussels, and has received several awards for best documentary at the Periferias Festival (Valencia), FESTin (Lisbon) and São Tomé FestFilm. A few months ago, in the summer of 2025, LINDO was also given a regular cinema release in Portugal.

Before the main film, we will be showing the short film IRMGARD SPRINGT (Irmgard Jumps, Vanessa Rösgen, Germany 2024, 4′) from our short film competition programme.

Impressive cinematography by Hugo Azevedo with underwater shots by João Rodrigues. (João Lopes, Diário de Notícias)
