LISBON STORY recently celebrated its 30th anniversary. Director Wim Wenders himself celebrated his 80th birthday and was honoured with a major exhibition at the Bundeskunsthalle. His 14th film is a tribute to the city of Lisbon and, at the same time, a nod to film history. The outstanding soundtrack made the group Madredeus world-famous.

The magic of light guides us through the white city on the Tagus, and the sounds of fado echo our footsteps through Alfama. Wim Wenders has created a tribute to Lisbon, the European Capital of Culture in 1994, and a tribute to the world of sound. Thirty years later, ‘Lisbon Story’ has lost none of its radiance and significance. The long car journey through a Europe without borders at the beginning of the film is now more than ever a vision and symbol of a free and peacefully united Europe.

We will be showing the restored version of the film from 2019 in its original language (Portuguese, English) with subtitles. We will be serving a meal cooked together on site during the matinée. You are welcome to help with the cooking beforehand. If you feel like it, join us at 57Nord before the film starts to chop and peel vegetables – from around 10:30 a.m. We will show a short film before the main film. We would like to thank the Wim Wenders Foundation for enabling us to show this classic in such an intimate setting. Following the film, before the afternoon screening of medium-length short films, there will be a small concert by Julakim.

⚠️Admission to all screenings at 57Nord is free, but we appreciate donations on site and that you registered in advance via Eventbrite so that we could better estimate the ingredients for the food. We have now received so many registrations that we have closed the registration form. We expect the screening to be full. We recommend you take a look at the feature film screenings at Hafen 2, where we have greater capacity!
