The first edition of LusOFest will take place from Thursday 23 January 2025 to Sunday 26 January 2025. We organised a short film competition in the summer and the response and quality of the entries was overwhelming. As a result, we have decided to organise some additional screenings. The short film programme will be screened in the Filmklubb Offenbach and in smaller sessions in the gallery rooms of 57Nord.
In principle, our competition will screen Portuguese-language short films together with German-language regional productions from the Rhine-Main region. However, on Friday, 24 January 2025, we will have two screenings with a purely Portuguese-language focus. All films will be shown with subtitles, usually in English (if available, we will show the short films with German subtitles, but this is only the case for very few films). The second part of the curated short film programme ’25 April in Short Films’ takes a look at the Carnation Revolution in Portugal and the dictatorship it swept away. The late night programme ‘Lights, Camera, Activism’ shows short documentaries (usually under 20 minutes) from Angola, Brazil and Portugal that address social grievances.
On Saturday 25 January, the ‘long night of shorts’ will take place in the late programme, with regional and international films from various genres, and even a few horror shorts in the last block. Please pay special attention to the ‘short film finale’ on 26 January. At the finale, we will show a special selection of valuable contributions from our team, which will have an additional chance to win the first LusOFest Jury Prize.
