SOMMER-SHORTS – PART 2
FICTION & ANIMATION
Sat 14 June 2025, 21h30 (Doors 20h30), 57Nord Offenbach
Short films, Germany, Brazil, Portugal, Original versions w/ English subs, 90′
At LusOFest, short films by filmmakers from the Rhine-Main region are screened alongside international productions from the Portuguese-speaking world. In June, we conclude the festival season with a small short film weekend, where we show some films from our shortlists that we were unable to show at the festival, as well as some older works by filmmakers who were represented at this year’s festival.
Although the summer short film weekend is not competitive in nature, we do award an audience prize. On Saturday evening, 14 June 2025, we will be screening a selection of animated and non-animated fictional short films at 57Nord. The day before, Friday, 13 June, the focus will be on experimental films and documentaries. We will show the short films in an intimate setting and over a shared meal. Admission is free, but we welcome donations and registrations via this form (to help us estimate the amount of food to prepare). After the second block of films, you are welcome to stay and enjoy the evening with lively conversation and music videos from our Lusophone and regional collection.

‘Roots’ is a regional short film in Portuguese about loss and the search for one’s roots, shot on an iPhone 4. ‘100 Bucks’ is the brand-new sequel to ‘10 Bucks’, which was screened at the festival in January and reunites us with the homeless protagonist Barba. ‘Depois do Esquecimento’ (roughly: After Oblivion) is another short film released this year, set in a dystopian future and taking up the theme of the Carnation Revolution.

‘Santa Rita Dream‘ is a short film produced in the Azores that could be loosely described as a romantic comedy. It is set during the Second Gulf War and plays on stereotypical prejudices against American soldiers. We showed the film last year at the Kurzfilmtag im Filmforum Höchst in the run-up to the festival. ‘A Bird Called Memory’ is a dreamy portrait of a trans woman in São Paulo, incorporating musical elements and with a slightly surreal touch. The film won our jury prize this year. ‘Nichts’ is a road movie, staged with great attention to detail, which accompanies two protagonists who deal with personal loss in very different ways. It won our audience award this year. ‘Lou’ is a music video for an electronica piece by regional producer Heartplay. It incorporates impressive original Super 8 footage from the 1970s.
We will show the programme in three thematic blocks with a short break. Coming and going between blocks or films is absolutely fine at the low-threshold, free screenings at 57Nord.
